An IP rating classifies the degrees of protection provided against the intrusion of solid objects (including body parts like hands and fingers), dust, accidental contact and water in electrical enclosures. The first number indicates the protection from solids and the second number is the protection from liquids.

This enclosure has an IP66/IP69 rating which means it is protected from water spray, dust and debris, so this enclosure unit could be used outside, however regular inspection and maintenance checks are advised.
