ISL9238, Buck-Boost Narrow VDC Battery Charger with SMBus and USB OTG Evaluation Board


The ISL9238EVAL1Z evaluation board demonstrates the performance of the ISL9238. The step up and step down Narrow Output Voltage DC battery charger provide high light-load efficiency, fast transient response and seamless DCM/CCM transitions.

The number of the Li-ion batteries, the switching frequency and the adapter current limit charging function is programmed with a simple resistor.

Input power of the ISL9238 in charge mode can be supplied from AC-DC charger adapters, USB Power Device ports or travel adapters. It safely charges up to 4 cell Li-ion batteries in a series configuration.

When the USB On-the-Go (OTG) function is enabled, the ISL9238 operates in the Reverse step down mode to provide 5 V output at the USB port.

The ISL9238 can program critical parameters with the serial SMBus/I²C communication. These include adapter current limit, charger current limit, system voltage setting and trickle charging current limit.
