Power cable assemblies are electrical cables that are pre-terminated with a plug or socket connector. Power cable assemblies can be terminated with connectors on both ends of the cable, or just one. Depending on the application, there are various types to suit a wide range of requirements.

This cable assembly is terminated one end with a NEMA 5-15 plug. NEMA stands for the US ’National Electrical Manufacturers Association’. NEMA 5-15 plugs are used for AC mains electricity in North America and other countries that used the same standard. NEMA 5-15P plugs have two poles with one ground pin, are rated for 125 V and are used on domestic electric equipment.

The other end of this power cord is terminated with a fully moulded IEC C13 socket which is used to connect the power cord to an appliance that has a C14 inlet. C13 and C14 connectors have 3 pins, a rated current of 10 A and a maximum temperature rating of 70°C, and are sometimes referred to as IEC ’cold connectors’. IEC connectors conform to a set of specifications called IEC-60320 laid down by the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) to make sure the connectors meet common global design standards.
