The FTDI chip USB to UART cable is a fast and simple way to connect devices with a TTL level serial interface to USB. The TTL voltage levels for the UART signals are supplied with the application interface logic. Each cable contains a small internal electronic circuit board, utilising the FT232R, encapsulated into the USB connector at the end of the cable. The cable has a gauge of 24AWG and diameter of 5mm. They are un-terminated, bare and tinned wires. The circuit is powered from the USB using 5V power pins and any VCC connection, always at 5VDC. However, this cable is available with signal TTL logic level supplied according to customers interface. These cables are supported with Microsoft WHQL certified VCP drivers for Windows, Apple Mac, and Linux.
