NTC thermistors are specially developed to limit the current at turn-on by their relatively high resistance when they are cold. When the NTC thermistor heats up as a result of the current load its resistance decreases by a factor of 10 to 50, and the power it draws reduces accordingly. NTC thermistors are able to handle higher inrush currents than fixed resistors with the same power consumption.
Leaded and coated NTC thermistors Tinned copper wire, kinked Component marking includes the manufacturer'slogo, resistance value and date code Highly stable electrical characteristics Applications Inrush current limiting, e.g. in switch-mode power supplies, soft-start motors
