The Microchip MGC3130 Hillstar Development Kit is a platform for evaluating and developing 3D gesture recognition systems. The kit operates as a complete reference design and features the MGC3130 3D gesture controller which incorporates Microchips GestIC® 3D gesture recognition technology.
The kit senses gestures like air wheels and flicks in the free space above the device through the detection of changes in a transmitted electrical field caused by interaction with the users hand. The spatial arrangement of the electrodes allows the MGC3130 controller to determine the centre of this electric field distortion, allowing the controller to interpret hand gestures. In addition to 3D gestures the MGC3130 controller can provide real-time XYZ tracking.
Designing 3D gestures into applications is straightforward using the Aurea software development kit which provides direct access to the GestIC® Colibri gesture library hosted on the MGC3130 controller.

Note
For applications that do not require real time 3D tracking and only need 3D gesture recognition the MGC3030 Woodstar GestIC Development Kit (Microchip part DM160226) is a suitable alternative to consider.
