Teledyne's TO-5 DPDT relays have become one of the industry standards for low level switching from dry circuit to 1 Amp. Designed for use when close PCB spacing is required, the 712 series have a low coil power dissipation in an ultra-miniature relay package. In addition to the standard types there are the 712D and 712TN relays. The 712D relays have an internal discrete silicon diode which provides coil transient suppression. The 712TN-5 hybrid relay (stock number 758-2449) has an internal silicon diode and transistor driver. The integrated packaging of the relay with its associated semiconductor devices greatly reduces PCB floor space requirements as well as saving on installation time. With a low inter-contact capacitance and contact circuit losses, the whole range of 712 series TO-5 relays are excellent ultra-miniature RF switches for frequencies well into the UHF spectrum (see datasheet for performance curves). A typical RF application for the TO-5 relay is in hand held radio transceivers, the combined features of good RF performance, small size, low coil power dissipation and high reliability make it a preferred method of Transmit/Receive switching.
