D-sub Connector Backshells

The D-subminiature or D-sub connector is a type of electronic connector commonly found in computing hardware. A D-sub connector backshell fits over a D-sub connector in order to protect and handle it safely. Backshells can also change the orientation of the connector and are available in a range of sizes, materials and colours to suit your application.

What are D-sub connector backshells used for?

The D-sub connector backshell stabilises the connector and prevents damage from straining on the cables to which the connector is attached. The backshells are often colour-coded or labelled so they can be easily identified when connected to large modular boards.

Types of D-sub connector backshells

Backshells are available in a variety of different designs. The main type of D-sub connector backshell is the screw type connector. These ensure that the D–sub connector is firmly fixed in place when connected.

D-sub connector backshells can be used to change the orientation of the connection and allow the connectors to be tailored to the application in which they will be used. This enables connections to be made when the space available is restricted.
